Crowned Devotional- XOXO Gossip Girl

This week God placed on my heart the topic of gossip. For some reason, gossip seems like something you just can’t get away from. I mean, everyone does it, right?

Ok, real talk ladies: we’ve all spilled a secret or said something ugly about our friends before. Whether it was slip up or you said it to get back at that one girl, chances are, you probably chalked it up to just a little harmless gossip.

“A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.” Proverbs 11:13

It’s easy to talk about someone else, but we can all agree that it hurts when we find out that someone we considered a friend is talking behind our backs.  So why do we think it’s ok to do it to other people?

Ephesians 4:29 says: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

As not only sisters in ZTA, but also sisters in Christ to the rest of our friends we are called to be worthy of our sisters’ trust. Christ showed his love for us, and we are to be examples of that love to everyone we interact with. There is no benefit to tearing down our friends. Knocking off someone else’s crown does not straighten our own. It’s time for us ladies to stand up for one another.

Believe me, I know more than anything else the temptation to gossip about someone when you heard they were talking about you. I know how hard it is to forgive those who slander us behind our backs rather than fighting back. It can be hard to speak kind words to those who have hurt us. But Ephesians 4:32 says: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Don’t continue the cycle of gossip girls. Do speak life, do encourage your friends, and do forgive. Because it’s never just harmless gossip, and it won’t end unless we decided to stop participating in it.

Always remember- speak kind words, and you will hear kind echoes.

XOXO, Summer
